Driver Fleeing Scene Of Crash Slams Into Building In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A driver fleeing the scene of an accident in Queens Sunday afternoon slammed into a building just blocks away.
Investigators told CBS 2 the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a building at 82nd Street and Myrtle Avenue, in the Glendale section of Queens near Forest Park.
The Fire Department was called to the scene at 1:20 p.m.
A man whose family was involved in the initial accident said the driver hit his uncle's car on Woodhaven Avenue and Union Turnpike.
"He hit them there and then he tried to get away," said Matthew Adujar. "His brakes weren't working, so he spiraled out of control and into the house."
No serious injuries were reported in the crash that caused the fire, nor in the earlier hit-and-run accident.
The driver who hit the building was in police custody Sunday afternoon. Charges were pending.
