Driver Badly Hurt When NJ TRANSIT Train Collides With Car In Ho-Ho-Kus
HO-HO-KUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A driver was seriously hurt when his car collided with a New Jersey Transit train in northern New Jersey.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. Monday at the Hollywood Avenue crossing in Ho-Ho-Kus. The cause of the collision was not immediately clear, but an investigation was continuing.
As CBS 2's Sonia Moghe reported, the car was on the tracks as the Waldwick-bound train came barreling through.
The car, which was left badly mangled in the collision, was pushed several feet beyond the crossing, officials said.
The 26-year-old driver was taken to Hackensack University Hospital for his injuries. His name has not been released.
Four people were aboard the train when the accident occurred, but no injuries were reported.
"As part of any investigation, there are a number of factors that go into play. You will interview the customers, you will interview the crew members. Preliminary investigation is finding that all operated as intended. But again, the matter remains under investigation," NJ TRANSIT spokesman John Durso, Jr. said.
Trains can travel up to 60 miles per hour in the area where the collision happened, Moghe reported.
