Driver Arrested After Crash That Critically Injured Child On Long Island
SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County Police arrested a Ronkonkoma man Saturday for driving while ability impaired by drugs.
Police say Steven Kinalis was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion eastbound on Sunrise Highway when his vehicle rear-ended a 2004 Dodge pickup truck, which then struck a tree.
The truck's driver was Kevin Gaffney, 36, of West Islip. His 5-year-old son was critically injured in the crash and airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Gaffney, his wife, 7-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son were treated at Stony Brook for non-life-threatening injuries.
Kinalis refused medical treatment following the crash. He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
