Dozens Of Stores Sign To Join Open-Air Shopping Center Replacing Nanuet Mall
NANUET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Construction continues at the former site of the Nanuet Mall in Rockland County.
Tom Schneider, executive vice president of Simon Property Group said they are reimagining the old Nanuet Mall into The Shops at Nanuet.
"We've come up with this open-air regional main street, which we're very excited about," Schneider told WCBS 880's Jim Smith. "We wanted to differentiate ourselves from other retail venues in the market."
The outdoor mall will feature a Fairway market, 24 Hour Fitness and a Regal movie theater in addition to the anchor stores of Sears and Macy's.

"We are virtually 100 percent committed and mostly signed," said Schneider.
Clarkstown Town Supervisor Alex Gromack said he is thrilled with the transformation.
"This has long been an eyesore and now it's going to be a thing of beauty," he told Smith.
Gromack said the opening of the nearby Palisades Center Mall in 1998 was the beginning of the end of the old Nanuet Mall.
"The interior wasn't desirable, the stores started leaving and it was just a slow death over 10 years," he told Smith.
There will be 50 to 60 shops and restaurants at the new shopping center when it opens in October.
