Trump: Campaign Has 'Never Been More United'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Donald Trump is denying claims his campaign is in crisis.

CBS News reported the candidate is increasingly estranged from his advisers, and that turmoil among his senior staff continues.

However, as CBS2's Dick Brennan reported, Trump is telling an entirely different story.

"So, I just want to say the campaign is doing very well," Trump said. "We've never been more united."

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Washington Post that Trump cannot win the campaign the way he's conducting it, and must reverse course.

Trump went on the attack during a rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, seizing on the news that the United States sent $400 million to Iran around the same time four detained Americans were released.

"We've been humiliated by President Obama, we've been humiliated by the Iran deal," Trump said.

Trump's appearance comes as reports say the campaign is struggling to make sure the candidate avoids any more unforced errors.

Though it seems Trump and vice presidential nominee Mike Pence are not on the same page, as the Indiana governor endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan. Trump refused to do so in an interview with The Washington Post on Tuesday.

"I talked to Donald Trump this morning about my support for Paul Ryan, our longtime friendship. He strongly encouraged me to endorse Paul Ryan in next Tuesday's primary, and I'm pleased to do it," Pence said.

On the Democratic side, three high-level members of the Democratic National Committee left the organization on Tuesday in the wake of the committee's hacked email controversy.

In a campaign appearance at a tie factory in Denver, Hillary Clinton ridiculed Trump for not making his items in the U.S.

"Donald Trump makes his suits in Mexico, not Ohio where he could; his furniture in Turkey, not in Pennsylvania where he could. If he wants to make America great again, he should start by making things in America," Clinton said.

The latest Fox News poll shows Clinton holds a 10-point lead over Trump – 49 to 39 percent.
