Dominican Day Parade Rolls Up 6th Avenue
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The 30th annual Dominican Day Parade marched up Sixth Avenue starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The parade ended at 2 p.m., but festivities will continue all afternoon and evening throughout the city, with lots of celebrating taking place in Washington Heights. Much of Sixth Avenue is expected to be closed off through the evening.
Colorful floats, bright costumes and Caribbean rhythms filled the air.
More than half-a-million people were estimated to turn out for the festivities. The parade itself featured 10,000 participants.
Dominicans are the second-largest Hispanic group in the Tri-State Area, as well as the fastest-growing group.
