Dog Needs New Family After Being Rescued From Ravine In New Jersey
MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Stuck on a hole in a cliff in New Jersey, a little dog patiently waited for help.
When help finally came, firefighters rushed to the dog's aid, and they were able to pull her to safety. And now after a shave and some tender loving care, she is hoping to be rescued again.
As CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported Wednesday night, a team of emergency responders saved the dog's life by pulling her – raggedy and weak – out of a ravine in Garret Mountain Park in Passaic County, N.J. this past Monday.
Her lucky fate was to be found, so rescuers named her Clover.
Clover had no tags or microchip when she was found. And her coat was in such bad shape with mud and filth that veterinarian Paul Sedlacek and the technicians at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains had to shave her down.
But they were surprised to find that while Clover was slightly dehydrated, Clover was not injured and was in great health.
"Once I saw her weight, to me this did not look like a dog that was running loose for weeks and weeks -- she just wasn't that thin," Sedlacek said. "But my impression is that it was a dog that was pretty neglected as far as its hair coat, and then it probably either escaped or was dumped."
Clover could not be happier now.
"She is very well socialized. She loves people. She's easy to handle, so this is not a wild beast," Sedlacek said. "This is a dog that's been around people, and likes to be around people."
If Clover's original owner doesn't come forward in a week, she will officially be placed up for adoption. Plenty of people have already been calling in asking about her, so chances are she'll have her forever home very soon.
