Do American Parents Raise The World's Most Spoiled Kids?
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's a topic that's getting some people hot under the collar: spoiled kids. According to a recent study, American kids may be the most spoiled in the world - and some parents agree.
Denise Schipani, author of 'Mean Moms Rule,' visited The Couch to discuss the thorny issue.
At what point do we notice we're raising spoiled children?

"I think what's happened is we're seeing the results now in young adults of a generation - or more - of what's called 'helicopter parenting,'" Schipani said. "Young adults can't seem to manage life on their own."
Why are we doing this?
"I think a lot of it is that we're busy - or we perceive that we're a lot busier - and you start out making a sandwich for your kid when he's two, which makes perfect sense, and then when he's eight and perfectly capable of making a peanut butter sandwich on his own, we're still doing it for him. And we're still tying his shoes and we're still making sure his homework is in his backpack."

You may think as a parent that it's easier or faster to just perform simple tasks - like making a sandwich - for your child in the interest of time. This only contributes to the problem, Schipani added.
"There isn't a chance for the kid to own their own success or their failures," she said.
