DOE Announces 'Kindergarten Connect' To Streamline Enrollment Process
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The city has announced plans to launch a new online tool to make it easier for parents to enroll their kids in kindergarten.
As WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported Thursday, parents will soon be able to do it right from their computers.
Under the current system, parents "go from school to school to school submitting applications at each school," New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said.

That process will change starting next year, said Walcott, a former kindergarten teacher.
"Through something that we're calling 'Kindergarten Connect,'" the schools chancellor said. "Every parent will be able to apply for kindergarten over the Internet."
The online form will allow parents to submit all their application information in one place, rank the schools and get enrolled, Silverman reported.
"This is something that will affect every 5-year-old citywide starting in January," Walcott said.
The city will launch an ad campaign about Kindergarten Connect in the fall, officials said.
