Dodgers Outfielder Ethier Out Of NLCS Game 2 Lineup Due To Soreness
ST. LOUIS (CBSNewYork/AP) — Andre Ethier is not in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for Game 2 of the NL championship series because of lingering soreness after playing 13 innings Friday night in his first start of the postseason.
Hanley Ramirez was supposed to be in the lineup Saturday. He has been nursing sore ribs from getting hit by a pitch early in the Game 1 loss to St. Louis. Manager Don Mattingly referred to Ramirez as "a little iffy" and said it might change prior to game time.
Ramirez turned out to be a late scratch. Nick Punto started in his place at shortstop.
Skip Schumaker started in center field and batted seventh. Mattingly thought Ethier would be available later in the game to pinch hit or in a double switch.
The Cardinals won Game 1 thanks to Carlos Beltran's game-winning hit in the 13th inning.
