DOD: 2 Soldiers From NJ Die In Afghanistan
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two soldiers from New Jersey have died in Afghanistan.
Spc. Jonathan Batista, a 22-year-old from Kinnelon, died Sunday when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms, according to the Department of Defense.
Batista was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 321st Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Staff Sgt. Raul M. Guerra from Union City died on July 4 in Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, the DoD said. A cause of death was not released.
The 37-year-old was assigned to the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
Guerra had just started his fifth deployment, which began in May.
