Doctor: Bono's Cycling Accident Resulted In Multiple Fractures Requiring 2 Separate Surgeries
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - An orthopedic trauma surgeon at a New York City hospital says a cycling incident involving U2 singer Bono caused multiple fractures and required him to have two separate surgeries.
Dr. Dean Lorich of New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Hospital for Special Surgery says Bono was attempting to avoid another cyclist on Sunday.
He arrived at the hospital with a facial fracture involving his left eye socket; his left shoulder blade fractured in three places, and a left elbow fracture that broke the skin.
Lorich says Bono underwent a five-hour surgery Sunday night on his elbow where three plates and 18 screws were inserted. He had another surgery on Monday to repair a fracture to his left pinkie.
Lorich says Bono will need therapy but a full recovery is expected.
Because of the incident, U2 had to postpone their week-long stint on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
