Do Shorter Fences Make Better Neighbors On LI?
NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY (WCBS 880) - It's a case of privacy vs. good neighbor relations.
LISTEN: WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports
Some in North Hempstead say a six-foot-tall fence around their property is necessary for privacy and protection.
Others, however, want the current four-foot height limit maintained. They believe the smaller fences lend to a greater sense of community and good neighbor relations.
"You can see your neighbors when you go and share space in their homes and your homes with them and get to really know your neighbors, not just look over a fence," one homeowner told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
The issue has become an emotional one in Roslyn Heights section of North Hempstead, where one man says he wants a six-foot fence to protect his child from a neighbor's dogs.
The town will decide the matter next month.
