Dix Hills Man To Climb Mount Kilimanjaro To Raise Money, Awareness For Autism
DIX HILLS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A Long Island man is making quite a big climb to raise money for an autism foundation.
The Spectrum Designs Foundation, which gives employment to those diagnosed with autism, has touched the heart of Justin Abrams. The 23-year-old Dix Hills resident told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall that he plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro -- the tallest mountain in Africa -- at the end of May. His goal is to raise money to support the non-profit organization.

"I do have autistic family members, I do have autistic cousins, but it affects everyone in some way, shape or form," Abrams told Hall. "Spectrum Designs specifically gives gainful employment to individuals who are on the spectrum for autism, and it gives the education and employment experience to these individuals where they would typically be overlooked."
A new study shows that one in every 88 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
