Disabled Train Snags NJ TRANSIT Service At Penn Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A disabled train caused major delays on the NJ TRANSIT rail system Tuesday night, just in time for the evening rush.
Service advisories on the NJ TRANSIT website indicated most trains into and out of Penn Station were operating normally with residual delays as of 8:40 p.m.

But delays of up to 15 minutes were still reported on the Northeast Corridor Line, and delays topping out at as much as 45 minutes were reported on the North Jersey Coast Line, due to the disabled train and resulting congestion.
A Gothamist report Tuesday evening said NJ TRANSIT travelers were subjected to a "disaster" at Penn Station during the evening rush.
As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, NJ TRANSIT workers were trying to tell riders what was going on Tuesday evening. Waiting rooms were crowded, nerves were frayed, and passengers were confused.
"I think there are more people scrambling to get to their destination, so there's more volume – that certainly exacerbates the issue," one man said.
But passengers complained that they were kept in the dark about the cause of the delays.
"Some explaining would be nice, but as far as, you know, we don't know anything," a woman said.
NJ TRANSIT admitted to riders that the railroad was behind in posting all the delays.
Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT told the publication the source of the delays was an Amtrak train that became disabled just outside of Penn Station around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Delays of up to 45 minutes continued during the 8 p.m. hour on the Metro-North New Haven Line, due to signal problems near South Norwalk.
