Dinkins Expected To Be Out Of Hospital By Week's End
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former Mayor David Dinkins was expected to be released from the hospital by the end of the week, according to his law partner and adviser.
Peter Johnson Jr. said he spoke with Dinkins, 86, on Tuesday. Dinkins was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital with pneumonia this past Wednesday.
Dinkins is walking the hallways, greeting people, reading the papers, watching the news and signing letters, Johnson said. The former mayor was also able to vote on Tuesday, CBS 2 reported.
Johnson said Dinkins has made "a dramatic turnabout from where he was" when he was admitted.
Dinkins was the first black mayor of New York City. He defeated three-term incumbent Mayor Ed Koch in 1989, but served only one term before being defeated by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani four years later.
Dinkins teaches at Columbia University.
