Darren Meenan prints t-shirts for The 7 Line, his own Mets related brand. He started it at the end of the disappointing 2009 season, when he made a shirt that said "I Survived."
"This is a 4-color 4-station screen printing press," he told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell. "It's crazy that being a Mets fan and having the ability to make t-shirts that people appreciate has turned into a job."
He said that last year, his PayPal account brought in about $200,000.
The loyal following includes not just Mets fans, but also players.
"I mean they do interviews wearing the shirts and that's crazy," Meenan said.
The shirts are creative, sometimes edgy, and don't include the Mets logo or name, which is how he get gets away with it. He has even had a sale for charity.
The most popular design celebrated Johan Santana's no-hitter, Haskell reported.
"A shirt that says 'history' and in place of the S and the T in the word, is a 5 and a 7," he said. "So, it's kind of a play on words. His number is 57. It was a historic moment."
