Amtrak Service Resumes After Day-Long Service Disruption
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Amtrak service between New York and Boston has resumed following a derailment.
The first train operating on a normal schedule out of New York Penn Station departed at 5 p.m., according to Amtrak. The first New York-bound train out of Boston South Station departed at 4:10 p.m.
Trains as of Sunday night were moving through the area at reduced speeds, as work continued overnight to open a second track. Residual delays were expected through Sunday evening.
Amtrak planned to operate a full schedule Monday morning, but delays were possible in the New Haven area.
Service was temporarily suspended for most of the day Sunday due to an early morning freight train derailment near New Haven, Connecticut.
Passengers with tickets but who opted not to travel due to the delays can receive a refund or a voucher, Amtrak announced.
Amtrak service between New York and Washington was unaffected and the Springfield Shuttle operated as scheduled.
