Democrats Retake Mayor's Office In Stamford, Conn.
STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Democrats on Tuesday night retook control of the mayor's office in Stamford, Conn., with businessman David Martin defeating former Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele.
The Republican Fedele called Martin on Tuesday night to concede the race less than an hour after the polls closed at 8 p.m.
Martin, a senior partner with a management consulting firm, was the Democratic Party's mayoral candidate in 2009, but he lost that year to Republican Michael Pavia. Pavia, however, decided not to seek a second four-year term this year.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, the last Democratic mayor in Stamford, had held the seat before Pavia.
Martin defeated state Rep. William Tong in the city's Democratic primary earlier this year to win the spot on Tuesday's ballot.
