Mayor De Blasio Back On Feet After Hernia Surgery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took time out last Friday to have surgery for a double hernia.

On Monday, de Blasio was back on his feet at a briefing for reporters, where he praised his doctors and spoke of his recovery process, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.

"I am in a little bit of pain. Mainly it's not easy to walk around as much as I'd like," de Blasio said. "But, you know what these, things are amazing now a days and I'm blessed to be having this surgery today versus 10 or 20 years ago."

When asked if de Blasio receive a get-well card from New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, de Blasio refused to open up.

"I don't divulge my get-well cards or calls," de Blasio said.

One City Hall source told Lamb that the answer was 'no.'

The comment is another jab in an ongoing feud between de Blasio and Cuomo, who have fought over dozens of issues while in office.

The hostility escalated this summer when de Blasio accused Cuomo of undermining the city's agenda in Albany and holding a "vendetta" against those he disagrees with.

The politicians have also recently clashed on funding appropriations for the state's $30 billion MTA spending bill, and New York City's homelessness problem.

But on Dec. 3, Cuomo and de Blasio met together for a quiet dinner at Casa Lever on Park Avenue in Manhattan. It is unclear what was discussed.
