2 Killed When BMW, Garbage Truck Collide And Burst Into Flames In Inwood
INWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A deadly crash on Long Island has neighbors in the area shaken.
It was around 4 a.m. when a private garbage truck and a BMW collided at the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and Bayview Avenue in Inwood, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. Then, there was an explosion of flames.
"Well I heard the sound. To me it sounded like an airplane crashing. It was the most horrible sound I've ever heard," said one resident.
Authorities said two people inside the BMW were killed. They said the crash was so violent, it will be difficult to identify the victims, Hall reported. Photos of the scene show charred wreckage.
"That's so sad. It's sad and during the holidays too? It's just sad," said another resident.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital.
There's no word yet on the cause of the crash.

Police shut down Sheridan Boulevard in both directions between Bays Water Boulevard and Nassau due to the accident investigation. Bayview Avenue is also closed between Doughty Boulevard and Sheridan Avenue.
