Deadline To Apply For Federal Storm Aid Extended In Rockland County
NEW CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Rockland County residents still recovering from superstorm Sandy have an extended window to apply for federal disaster relief.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be closing its main disaster recovery center at Provident Bank Park in Pomona on Friday, but FEMA officials will remain in the county to help residents apply for aid.

The county's two FEMA centers, in Pomona and Piermont, had been scheduled to close last weekend but had their operations extended.
"We really want people to know that the extension is to Dec. 31. There's still time," Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef told reporters including WCBS 880's John Metaxas.
The federal Small Business Administration is also on hand in the county to help with loans.
"The SBA loans go to both individuals and businesses," Vanderhoef said.
Some waterfront communities in Rockland, like Piermont and Nyack, were badly flooded in the storm.
Officials announced that as of this week, $2.1 million in federal aid has been approved for Rockland residents.
Of the 1,300 requests, FEMA approved 326 of them, county officials said.
About 1,000 more applications for aid from Rockland residents are still pending.
The message, Vanderhoef said, is that help is available but residents have to apply for it to be eligible.
