NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A dead humpback whale washed ashore on Rockaway Beach on Tuesday morning.
The remains were discovered around 7 a.m. on the beach at 117th Street.
The Coast Guard originally spotted the dead mammal floating about nine miles off shore Monday.
Investigators are waiting for the next low tide to assess the 25-foot long whale's remains and determine a cause of death, CBS2 reported.
The public is urged to keep away from the animal.
