Days Numbered For Rockland Playground
NANUET, NY (WCBS 880) - The fun and games are over for a two-decade-old park in Rockland County.
LISTEN: WCBS 880's Sean Adams reports
To a starry-eyed child, the castle at the Nanuet-Highview Community Park in Nanuet must look like an enchanted wonderland - a fortress of towers, ramps, ropes, bridges, and slides.
Minehan tells WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams, "It's sad to see it go."
The wood is rotting. It's unsafe.
The Nanuet school district has to tear down the castle.
Parent Marie Moynihan will address the next school board meeting "... about maybe replacing it so that we can still have a community park there."
Sean Adams asked, "[Are] you worried they're going to put up a parking lot?
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're going to put up a parking lot. I would say, in about two months, if you came back, you'd be seeing a parking lot."
School superintendent Mark McNeill tells the Journal News, "We feel bad about it."
No decision has been made about the fate of the playground property.
