Davis Leaves Game 4 With Severe Knee Injury
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Knicks guard Baron Davis was carted off the court on a stretcher with what appeared to be a severe knee injury in the third quarter Sunday against the Miami Heat.
It was later confirmed that Davis suffered a dislocated kneecap according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
Davis was driving up the court for a potential go-ahead basket when his right leg buckled and he fell to the court with 5:15 left. Concerned teammates quickly waved for help as Davis remained on the floor.
He pointed at the crowd as he was wheeled off the court. Knicks fans gave him a loud ovation as he went through the Madison Square Garden tunnel.
His teammates were inspired to win the game for Davis as Tyson Chandler later revealed.
"We just started playing for him. That's really all it came down to. Everyone really wanted to win this game for him," center Tyson Chandler said. "It's just guy after guy going out with injury and that was a tough one to watch."
Even LeBron James also commented on the injury and expressed his concern for Davis.
"BD is a really good friend of mine and always has been since I got in the NBA and it is unfortunate that happened," LeBron James said.
Davis has battled injuries all season. A herniated disc in his back kept him out until February. He becomes the latest Knicks guard lost to an unfortunate injury. It has almost been as if someone placed a voodoo curse over Knicks guards this season.
Jeremy Lin is still out after knee surgery and Iman Shumpert was lost for the season with a torn ACL in Game 1.
"It's been a rough year on our team as far as injuries," Knicks interim coach Mike Woodson said in a televised interview after the third quarter. "He's got a tough injury on his hands. I don't know how bad it is, but hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery."
Already, fans are speculating whether this could be a career-ending injury for Davis who worked hard to be able to play this season. Over recent years, Davis has dealt with a myriad of injuries. This might be the end for the 33-year-old veteran.
