David Cone Clears The Air About Allegedly Swearing On Yankees Broadcast
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- During the Yankees-Rays game this past Saturday, YES Network commentator and former Yankees and Mets pitcher David Cone may have let a swear word slip out while on the air.
In the second inning of the game, Cone and fellow commentator Michael Kay were discussing Red Sox slugger David Ortiz's recent dugout eruption, in which he smashed a bullpen phone with a bat. It was during Cone's analysis of the incident when an "F-bomb" was allegedly dropped into the description of pieces of phone flying everywhere.
Cone chatted with WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on Monday morning to give his first-hand account of what happened in the broadcast booth.
"Will you acknowledge that by mistake you did drop the 'F-bomb' on TV?" Carton asked the former ace.

"I think it was a check-swing," Cone said, claiming that he didn't fully pronounce the swear word and caught himself before it was uttered. "It was passionate. Honestly, I had to replay the tape myself. I didn't realize what all the hub-bub was about. The intent wasn't there, and I still think I kind-of check-swung."
Whether or not the five-time World Series champion let the swear word slip out, Carton believes that there is no issue regardless
"David is going to be on the spot, and he actually has to comment on this?" Carton argued. "Who cares?"
