NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The music world is saying goodbye to a legend.
Long before it was commonplace for pop stars to have alter egos and wild outfits there was David Bowie, who set the music world on its ear with the 1972 "Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars,'' album and one of music's most famous personas.

Bowie died of cancer Sunday, two days after releasing a new album.
He was 69.
His hits include "Space Oddity,'' "Let's Dance,'' "Changes'' and "Under Pressure'' with Queen.

A makeshift memorial has been growing outside Bowie's building on Lafayette Street in SoHo, where he lived with his international model wife, Imam, and their daughter, Lexi.
