MTA Debuts David Bowie Exhibit At Downtown Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new installation at the Broadway-Lafayette subway station showcases David Bowie's love of New York City.
The special "subway takeover" presents Bowie-inspired art paired with quotes from the singer about how the city inspired him.
Each piece comes with a Spotify code that lets riders play a Bowie song associated with the artwork.
The MTA will also be selling a series of five limited edition Metrocards that feature the singer's most famous personas such as Ziggy stardust.
Collector Nicolas Ramirez got out early Thursday to stock up on the cards.
"I bought a lot of them," he said. "They're selling for $15 a pop or even more, the whole collection is $80 a piece for five cards. It's just the hype, out here at 4 in the morning, that's all we're trying to do right now."
The special Bowie Metrocards are only available at the Broadway-LaFayette subway station, and the installation will be on display until May 13.
At the Brooklyn Museum, the "David Bowie Is" exhibit continues its run until July 15. More over 500 curated objects, including music, costumes, sketches, stage props, videos and jumpsuits, archive Bowie's life and career as a pop icon.
