Darrelle Revis: I'd Be Nice Addition To 49ers; Trade Reports 'Hit Home'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Jets general manager John Idzik said during a conference call with season ticket holders Monday that cornerback Darrelle Revis is "ahead of schedule" in his rehab from a torn ACL in his left knee.
But will Revis still be with Gang Green when he eventually takes the field?
Right on cue, the unhappy All-Pro expressed his frustration with the team -- again in a taped interview -- amid widespread speculation that New York is looking to trade its best player.
Idzik reportedly shopped Revis to several teams — discussions believed to be at the behest of owner Woody Johnson — at the combine in Indianapolis, with coach Rex Ryan and the rest of the organization "out of the loop," the New York Daily News reported last week.
"This hit home," Revis told Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson for "The Real Robinson Report," which was posted to YouTube on Monday. "This definitely hit home especially being one of the best players out there and come to find out you're getting shopped. Yeah, it really hits home. But my main focus is it really doesn't matter where I be at, I know what I can do. I'm confident in what I do. ... Whether it be there with the New York Jets or if it be with another team, I have to do what I have to do and play ball and do my services for that team."
Revis — widely considered the NFL's top cornerback — has been rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered early in the 2012 season. The 27-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season if he doesn't skip any mandatory team activities. He'll be looking to sign one of the NFL's most lucrative contracts for a defensive player -- something the Jets might not be willing to dole out.
Revis sounded high on the possibility of being traded to the San Francisco 49ers.
"Looking at their roster and their team, I would just be an addition to help them win that trophy," Revis said. "Would it be awesome? I mean, yeah. My main goal as a player, and I think of all of us as players in the NFL, is to hold that Lombardi Trophy up in the air and wear that ring."
The Niners, flush with picks already in the double digits for the upcoming draft, have been talked about as a possible trading partner for the Jets.
"They are definitely a contender and they will be a contender for the next couple years," Revis said of the 49ers. "That's a great conference and we'll see. My representatives are going to do the best job they can for me depending where I be at, whether I stay a New York Jet or whether I have to move on somewhere else."
