Prosecutors said Younger called attention to himself by entering the Spring Street C train station through the emergency exit gate, causing the alarm to sound.
There were three NYPD officers riding the southbound C train when Younger boarded. The officers had heard the alarm and noticed a bulge in Younger's right jacket pocket, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported.
When Younger sat down, the officers saw him move the package from his pocket to his lap. That's when the officers took action. They asked Younger to step off the train but refused and tried to push past the officers, Cornell reported.
They took him off the train at the Canal Street station and found a loaded .38-caliber revolver.
In pleading guilty, Younger admitted to carrying the loaded gun onto the C train on April 10, 2012, according to prosecutors.
"Gun violence is a national epidemic that requires immediate action on both the local and national levels," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in a news release. "Although New York City is one of the safest big cities in the world, illegal guns continue to wreak havoc in our neighborhoods. Last year in Manhattan, there were 173 victims of gun shootings, and 34 shooting victims died. My office will continue to make it a top priority to remove illegal guns from our streets and make our communities safer."
Vance also noted that every illegal weapon taken off the streets or, in this case, the subway makes the city safer.
