DA: 43 Members Of Rival Brownsville Gangs Indicted
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Dozens of members of two warring gangs have been indicted in connection with a series of shootings and killings in Brownsville.
The violence stemmed from territorial disputes between the Wave Gang, based at the Langston Hughes Houses, and the Hood Stars, at Marcus Garvey Village, according to the office of District Attorney Charles Hynes.

In the past year, three people were shot dead and 19 others, including innocent bystanders, were injured.
In August, 19-year-old Daniel Aleys was shot in a courtyard on Powell Street near Pitkin Avenue. He died days later from a gunshot wound to the head.

A 9-year-old boy and his 37-year-old father were also wounded in the same incident.
Gilberto Vicente, 19, a reputed member of the Hood Stars who was charged in the case, was also named in today's indictment.
Charges against the defendants, some as young as 15-years-old, include murder, assault, robbery and conspiracy.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said a special squad cracked the gangs' codes by following their social network postings to link the crimes to the suspected members.
Thirty-five guns were recovered during "Operation Tidal Wave."
