Cyclists Head From Newtown To D.C. In Support Of Gun Control
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Twenty-six cyclists were biking from Newtown, Conn., to Washington, D.C., this weekend to send a message.
The cyclists were riding more than 400 miles in support of what they describe as ``common sense solutions'' to prevent gun violence.
There is one rider for each victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, which took the lives of 20 children ages 6 or 7, and six adult staff members.
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) called the ride a ``rolling rally'' against special interests, particularly the National Rifle Association.
The riders were expected to arrive at Capitol Hill Tuesday. Blumenthal said the Judiciary Committee is expected to meet next week to evaluate changes to gun laws.
