Cuomo Stands By Promise That Second Ave Subway Line Will Be Running On Time
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo is standing by his promise that the long-awaited Second Avenue subway will open on time.
The governor said about a year ago he shot down suggestions that the deadline for opening the Second Ave subway be postponed, and declared it will open on time -- two weeks from tomorrow.
"I want a miracle for the holidays. I want a miracle for Christmas, where New Yorkers get the Second Avenue subway they were promised a hundred years ago, and that's their holiday gift," he said.
Asked if all the pressure to have it running by New Year's day might lead to cutting corners, the governor said on time doesn't mean compromising, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.
The governor said New Yorkers he was hoping that New Yorkers would be pleasantly surprised.
"Oh my gosh it's on time, how did this happen? Un miraculo, it was a miracle that government actually worked," he said.
As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, the governor said it's going to look good, you're going to be proud of it, and he predicts that when you see it, you'll say 'wow.'
