Cuomo Probing Fake Nun Linked to Notorious Church

NEW YORK (AP) -- The state attorney general's office is investigating a beggar who dresses up as a nun and is connected to a church whose founder was convicted of rape and murder in the 1970s.

Mindy LeGrand is part of an unaccredited church based in Brooklyn called St. John's Pentecostal of Crown Heights.

Church founder Devernon LeGrand was convicted of rape and three counts of murder and died in prison. Mindy LeGrand is related to him by marriage.

The office of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo issued subpoenas Monday. A spokesman for Cuomo said he could not provide details of the ongoing investigation.

No one answered the phone Tuesday at the Brooklyn house, where Legrand and others affiliated with St. John's live.
