Cuomo Endorses Suozzi For Nassau County Executive

ALBERTSON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Democratic Nassau County executive candidate Thomas Suozzi picked up a high-profile endorsement Saturday.

To a packed room at the Albertson VFW, at 155 Searingtown Rd. in Albertson, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said there is only one man for the job, and he announced Suozzi as "the next Nassau County executive."

As 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer reported, a recent poll put Republican incumbent Edward Mangano at a 17-point lead over Suozzi. But Democrats at the event called Cuomo a "good luck charm."

Cuomo himself was asked if he thought his endorsement would make a difference with Suozzi down in the polls.

"When you get to this point in the race, it's all about turnout and who actually comes out for the vote," Cuomo answered.

Mangano recently picked up his own endorsement by a heavy hitter in the form of former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

"He is entitled to be reelected. He should be reelected," Giuliani said of Mangano.

On Sunday, Nov. 3, CBS 2 and TV 10/55 will broadcast a debate between Mangano and Suozzi.

The most recent poll showed Mangano with 52 percent support, compared with 35 percent for Suozzi.

Mangano defeated Suozzi by 386 votes in 2009.
