CT Sen. Lieberman Agrees With Not Releasing Bin Laden Photos After Viewing Them
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman has viewed the death photos of Osama bin Laden and agreed that they should not be released to the public.
Spokeswoman Whitney Phillips said Lieberman was given the opportunity to view the photos as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee and a member of the Armed Services Committee.
Phillips said Lieberman felt it was his responsibility to view the photos, and after seeing them believes that "there should be no doubt whatsoever that Osama bin Laden is indeed dead."
She said the senator supports President Obama's decision not to release the photos.
Spokesmen for U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said neither have seen the photos.
