CT GOP Presents Its Own Ideas

HARTFORD, CT (WCBS 880) - Connecticut Republican lawmakers are proposing their ideas today, as Democratic Gov. Dan Malloy prepares to deliver his state budget next month.

Republican lawmakers have their own ideas for tackling state spending. State Senate Republican leader John McKinney says the proposals include consolidation of state agencies, a two-year pay freeze for state workers, as well as cuts to their pension and benefits package.

McKinney says this is a priority.

"We cannot continue to dump those increased costs on to future generations," McKinney told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. "It is simply unsustainable."

Republican leaders present their ideas just three weeks before Malloy presents his state budget. McKinney says the GOP proposals who chop $3 billion from the budget.
