Brooklyn President Calling For Funding To Expand Surveillance Throughout Crown Heights
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Lower Manhattan has its so-called "Ring of Steel." Now, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams wants a similar project for Crown Heights.
One million dollars was spent on surveillance cameras in Borough Park, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.
"If we duplicate that million dollars, we can cover the entire Crown Heights community," Adams said.
Surveillance video recently led to the arrest of a man charged with killing an imam and his friend.
"There is no bigger selling point than seeing what happened in Queens," he said.
Adams believes the program is cost-effective.
Adams is calling for the city to fund an expansion of Operation Safe Shopper, a partnership he unveiled last month between local civic organizations and the New York City Police Department in which he has funded the deployment of security cameras in neighborhoods across Brooklyn to assist with the investigation of local crimes.
