Critics Crying Foul Over Plan To Control Bird Populations Near JFK Airport
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Critics are crying foul over a plan to control bird populations near JFK Airport, in an effort to stop collisions with planes.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's plan would authorize staffers to kill a half-dozen bird species within a five-mile radius of the airport, but some environmentalists said the plan conflicts with a federal effort to restore nearby wetland habitats for birds.
Blackbirds, crows and Canada geese are among the birds being targeted.
