Councilman Calls Astoria School's Bedbug Situation 'Mind-Boggling'
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Just days away from the start of the new school year, there's fresh concern about bedbugs in the classroom.
The situation is bugging people in Queens, where inspectors found bedbugs in Astoria's P.S. 70 last winter, but never notified anyone, 1010 WINS' Stan Brooks reported.

According to the Daily News, there was no directive to notify schools when bedbugs were found until February of 2011, which is apparently why inspectors kept mum.
New York City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. is furious about the situation and said parents are demanding answers.
"How could an inspection be done and bedbugs be found without ever notifying the principal and how in the world can parents not be immediately notified so that they can take precautions?" he asked.
The critters were found in a closet of the school building, but the Education Department search team never notified the school principal or parents.
"We understand bedbugs may exist, but a minimum, tell the parents. Tell the principal and tell the parents. How that could not be done is just mind-boggling," Vallone Jr. said.
