Coughlin: Giants' Boasts No Different Than Brady's
INDIANAPOLIS (WFAN) — Giants coach Tom Coughlin has heard the trash talk from both sides -- and he has a verdict.
Hint: it's not "Talk is cheap, play the game."
The Giants have been uncharacteristically mouthy heading into Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots. Antrel Rolle all but guaranteed a win Tuesday. One day after that, Chris Canty predicted a victory parade down the Canyon of Heroes.
Add it all together with Jason Pierre-Paul's assertion that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was rattled in November by a phantom pass rush, and you have quite the trash-talk cocktail.
"There's been one or two quotes out there," Coughlin said in his final pre-game press conference Friday. "To be honest with you, I don't think either one of them are any different than Tom Brady's."
Brady told approximately 25,000 Patriots fans at Sunday's send-off pep rally: "Hopefully we'll have a lot more people at our party next weekend."
The Giants are ready to back up their boasts. In fact, not one player on Coughlin's 53-man roster wants to ride the pine Sunday in Indianapolis.
"Everyone wants to be a part of it," Coughlin said. "No one wants to be someone who is not able to participate or be a part of this wonderful experience. We've had everyone on the practice field, and hopefully, thank God, it will be that way Sunday."
Coughlin also said that running back Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to practice for a third straight day, despite a broken bone in his right foot.
"Ahmad has practiced two days in a row," he said, "which is very unusual and tells you the excitement that's built up there."
The 65-year-old coach has relished watching his team come together after a mediocre 7-7 start.
It all comes down to a simple mantra: "Finish."
"It was the first thing we hit them with when they came to camp," said Coughlin. "And it will be the last thing they hear from us before they take the field."
Coughlin also said he was grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Super Bowl once again.
"You thank God for the opportunity you've been give and you never, ever tire or even possibly think this happens on a normal basis -- It doesn't. It's tough to be in this position, to get to this point," Coughlin said.
