Coronavirus Update: NJ Sees 200 More Dead In 24 Hours, Murphy Warns 'We're Going Through Hell Together'
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - New Jersey saw a jump of 200 newly-reported dead from coronavirus-related illness on Saturday, raising the state's total of 846 dead.
"Let me put this in a proper yet very sobering context: We have now lost nearly 100 more of our fellow New Jerseyans to COVID-19 than did on the September 11 attacks," said Gov. Phil Murphy during his daily coronavirus briefing, prompting him to call for a moment of silence during the news conference.
"Please let that sink in for a moment," he said. "This pandemic is writing one of the greatest tragedies in our state's history, and just as we have committed to never forgetting those lost on 9/11, we must commit to never forgetting those we're losing to this pandemic."
