Cops: Suspect Charged With Murder After Woman's Body Found In Midwood Home
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have charged a man with murder in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in a Brooklyn home on Monday.
Ronald Friedfertig, 62, was also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police were called to a basement apartment at 1315 Avenue N in Midwood around 9:30 p.m. Monday on reports of a foul odor. When officers arrived, they found the body of 57-year-old Yevonne Gefner, police said.
Gefner had head trauma and multiple stab wounds to her back, police said. Her body was severely decomposed and police said she had likely been dead for weeks.
Gefner's death shocked the quiet community.
"It's a very Orthodox Jewish community, very tight-knit and everybody keeps an eye on one another," neighbor Michael Wright said. "It's kind of hard to have a murder right here."
Friedfertig and Gefner lived together, police said.
Police said Friedfertig was in the hospital being treated for an undisclosed condition.
