Cops: Man Struck, Dragged Officer With ATV During Traffic Stop
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man faces a number of charges following an incident that took place in the East New York section of the borough on Sunday.
At 3:47 p.m. two officers driving in an unmarked car along South Conduit Ave near Pitkin Ave noticed a man driving a four-wheel Yamaha all terrain vehicle in a reckless manner that included weaving in and out of traffic and riding on the sidewalk.
As officers approached the ATV, the driver sped away, striking one of the officers in the process and dragging him 190-ft, before fleeing the scene, police said.
EMS responded to the scene and transported the officer to Jamaica Hospital where he was listed in stable condition but with a number of injuries including scrapes, cuts, a broken nose, a broken back, and bruises to his face.
During a search of the area the vehicle was located in front of a Hegeman Ave body shop.
That's where found Christian Oliviere, 23, hiding inside of a vehicle on a mechanical lift, according to authorities.
Oliviere was wanted for an unrelated incident, and was arrested on reckless endangerment, reckless driving and fleeing from an officer in a motor vehicle.
Cops are still looking for the driver of the ATV.
