A man with unkempt hair wearing a long shiny overcoat was waving a three-foot sword on the pedestrian path at 41st Street on the West Side Highway, WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported.
A police officer with his gun drawn ran toward the man. Several officers took the suspect down and cuffed him, Silverman reported.
The man in his 20s seemed emotionally disturbed and had been shouting about being a guardian angel, according to Silverman.
Some bikers and joggers scattered as cops moved in, but no one was injured and no shots were fired during the incident.
