Cop Suspended After Alleged Shooting In Queens
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- A New York City detective assigned to Mayor Bloomberg's security detail was accused of shooting of an unarmed man.
Police said 46-year-old Leopold McLean was off duty when the incident happened two weeks ago in South Jamaica, Queens. He was with his girlfriend when her ex showed up, apparently violating a restraining order.
After a confrontation, McLean allegedly shot the man in the leg.
Attorney Gilbert Parris said his client did nothing wrong. "The incident itself takes place in a location where the individual shot would not have been, should not have been, and if he wasn't there according to legal mandate, this incident would've never occurred."
McLean, who was released on bail, was charged with attempted murder. He's been suspended from the force pending the outcome of the case.
