Cop Hospitalized After Being Struck By Truck In Queens Intersection
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A police officer was struck by a suspect's truck in the middle of the intersection of Crescent Street and Broadway in front of a busy Astoria supermarket, according to witnesses.
The injured cop fired at least one shot as the man behind the wheel sped off, witnesses told CBS 2.
"You could tell he was pretty hurt but he looked pretty conscious to me. It was like four officers to keep him calm because he was laying down and then they put him in the ambulance," Cynthia Mejia told CBS 2's Dave Carlin.
The officer was transported to NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Cops closed off the lower level of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge for nearly an hour as they searched for the suspects.
Lights from police helicopters illuminated the Queens night as the search ensued. The suspect's black pickup truck was eventually found at 37th Ave and 24th Street in Queens, from there he apparently fled on foot.
The incident may have started during a traffic stop. Authorities plan to continue the search for the suspect through the evening.
