"I saw a man get executed right across the street from me. He didn't have any expression on his face, he was just shooting, shooting and shooting. I pointed him out to the police and the police did the rest," Brian Dillon told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.
The 44-year-old from Westchester County was at his post at 9 a.m. when Johnson fatally shot his former co-worker Steve Ercolino.
NYPD officers quickly moved in and killed Johnson, wounding nine bystanders in the process.
Dillon told CBS 2's Amy Dardashtian that at that point instinct took over.
"I ran for cover by the police car. I don't know it happened so fast, you just act," he explained.
Dillon has been hailed by some as a hero, but he told Schuck he rejects that title.
"I just acted like everybody should act. You shouldn't have to live in a society like that. If everybody did the right thing every day, you wouldn't need to word hero," Dillon said.
