Construction Pushes Most Food Trucks Out Of Central Park Location
Perry, the voice behind New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City food trucks.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- After hearing rumblings about food trucks returning the the old Tavern on the Green site after being scooted out by the city's Park Department after last season, we stopped by the space at Central Park West &67th Street to see for ourselves.
The trucks were told that due to upcoming renovations they would no longer be allowed at the location, but Pera Turkish Tacos and Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream were both there serving customers last week.
On our trip to the site, we asked one of Pera's employees whether the truck would be there for the summer. They said said their truck would be there through June 10th, but weren't sure whether the contract would be renewed.

Our guess is the Tavern food trucks signed 1 year contracts last June, and the city couldn't keep them from serving at the site without buying back a portion of the contracts.
Since construction on a new restaurant hasn't begun yet, they might as well let the trucks serve another month until the contracts run out.
Van Leeuwen will be at the site when the weather cooperates - at least until June 10th.
We'll check back to see if the contracts are renewed in June, but quite honestly, we would be surprised if they were.
