Connecticut Steps Up Hunt For $254 Million Powerball Lottery Winner
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Who's got the winning ticket?
A big money mystery is brewing, and Connecticut lottery officials are taking some drastic action.
Somebody bought the sole winning ticket for Nov. 2's $254 million Powerball jackpot. So far, though, the winner has yet to claim the prize.
It's the largest jackpot in Connecticut's history, and the 12th biggest in Powerball's history.
So lottery officials have launched a statewide billboard campaign calling on folks to check their tickets.They're also using lottery display screens to urge players to check their tickets and the winner to come forward.
So far, there's been no word on where the winning ticket was sold - except that it was sold in Fairfield County.
The winner has until April 30th to come forward and claim the money, or the cash will get kicked back to the states it came from.
The winning numbers are 12, 14, 34, 39, 46 and Powerball 36.
Meanwhile, speculation swirls as to what happened.
Some folks are claiming they had the winning ticket, but lost it. Others are wondering if the person unaware that they won? It's also possible the winner taking his or her time to get their finances in order before coming forward.
CBS 2's Ann Mercogliano reports the mystery ticket holder has Stamford residents talking and hoping.
"I heard that it might be somebody here, but I personally don't know the person," one man, who heard around town that the winner works for the sanitation department.
However, after looking for the winner herself, Mercogliano reports the man or woman with the golden ticket remains an enigma.
